The Indian embassy in Tunisia said in a statement on Monday that the Indian authorities managed to secure the release of 17 citizens who had been detained in Libya since February 2022.
The embassy added that the kidnapped Indians arrived Sunday in the capital, New Delhi, on a Gulf Air plane, after securing their release through various channels, and arranging emergency certificates, exit visas, and safe return tickets to their country.
The embassy said that those Indians were deceived by travel agents for lucrative jobs in Italy, and they were detained instead by a smuggling gang in Libya.
