Serie A side Atalanta trounced Liverpool at Anfield in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Europa League and in the process, created new history.
It is a result that will go down in the history books of Italian football and it is arguably the most impressive European showing from an Italian side in recent memory. A brace from Gianluca Scamacca and a goal from Mario Pasalic helped La Dea chart a huge result, beating Liverpool at Anfield for the second time in history.
As per Opta, that isn’t the only history Atalanta created. They are now the second team in history to beat the Reds at Anfield at least twice. The other two sides to do that are Real Madrid and Barcelona.
While the scoreline was only 3-0, La Dea could’ve easily scored more and were denied by superb goalkeeping from Caomhin Kelleher, who made saves off Teun Koopmeiners and Pasalic.
