Milan will look to stretch their league-winning run to six straight matches when they face Sassuolo today.
Leaving the match without a point this afternoon could prove costly for Sassuolo as they would be plunged deeper into the relegation battle. While they are two points away from safety, the Neroverdi might run out of matches to stage an escape from the dropzone if they do not start acquiring the points now. Davide Ballardini’s side are yet to win a game in over a month as they lost to Roma and sealed draws against Udinese and Salernitana. Winning today will help them climb out of the relegation zone even if Verona and Frosinone get three points from their respective matches.
Meanwhile, Milan suffered a dent in their Europa League campaign in their previous outing versus Roma. The Rossoneri could not make good value of the home crowd as they conceded once and now have to stage a comeback in front of a hostile audience at the Stadio Olimpico in the second leg of the quarter-finals. Stefano Pioli is expected to shuffle his squad today as Milan have a tough run of fixtures coming up, including crucial clashes against Roma, Inter and Juventus. The Rossoneri are five points clear of Juventus in second place in the league standings as Pioli will hope to finish this season as runners-up behind the Nerazzurri.
Sassuolo (4-2-3-1): Consigli; Toljan, Erlic, Ferrari, Doig; Boloca, Thorsvedt; Defrel, Matheus Enrique, Laurienté; Pinamonti.
Milan (4-2-3-1): Sportiello; Florenzi, Kjaer, Thiaw, Theo Hernandez; Musah, Adli; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Jovic.
