The Italian team, dressed in ANED colours, at its final training session ahead of the first transplant football world cup
From 8 to 14 September in Cervia: the event, promoted by the World Transplant games federation, is organised in Italy by AiCS with the Ministry of Sport and the support of the Italian Paralympic Committee. ANED, the national association for transplanted and dialysed patients, is also collaborating.
Sixteen players, aged between 16 and 60, all of them kidney and bone marrow transplant recipients from all over Italy: they are the Italian team that will wear the Italian colours at the first edition of the Transplant Football World Cup on behalf of ANED, the national association of transplanted and dialysed patients.
The players will be led by coach Antony Tortomasi, a non-transplant recipient, but accompanied by co-coach Massimo Ricci, a kidney transplant doctor from Rome. Also on the pitch, supporting the team, will be journalist Francisco Fantini who, as a new transplant, cannot participate in matches or train yet, but will follow the team to tell their stories.

In all, more than 300 people take part in the event: 277 footballers and accompanying coaches, 40 volunteers and organisers, and 4 doctors per day, hired on the fields and social venues!

Transplant Football World Cup, il team italiano di coach Tortomasi pronto a scendere in campo!
La squadra azzurra, vestita dei colori ANED, ai suoi allenamenti finali in vista della prima coppa mondiale di calcio per trapiantati
Dall’8 al 14 settembre a Cervia: l’evento, promosso dalla World Transplant games federation, è organizzato in Italia da AiCS con il Ministero dello sport e il supporto del Comitato italiano paralimpico. Collabora anche ANED, associazione nazionale trapiantati e dializzati
Sedici giocatori, dai 16 ai 60 anni, tutti trapiantati per lo più di reni e midollo osseo, provenienti un po’ da tutta Italia: sono loro il team azzurro che, alla prima edizione della Transplant Football World Cup vestiranno i colori dell’Italia per conto di ANED, l’associazione nazionale trapiantati e dializzati.
I calciatori saranno diretti da coach Antony Tortomasi, non trapiantato, ma accompagnato dal co-allenatore Massimo Ricci, medico di Roma, trapiantato di rene. In campo, a supporto del team, anche il giornalista Francisco Fantini che, neo trapiantato, non può partecipare ai match o ancora allenarsi ma seguirà il team per raccontarne le storie.
