On 20 October 2024, the Museum of Literature and Theatre Art of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in Sarajevo hosted the event “Questa è La Storia: Omaggio a Elsa Morante” (This is History: Homage to Elsa Morante), organised by the Italian Embassy in BiH in the context of the Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo (SLIM) in collaboration with Letterature Festival Internazionale di Roma Capitale, Zètema Progetto Cultura and the Sarajevo Committee of the Società Dante Alighieri.

In line with the theme of the 2024 edition of SLIM “Italian and the book: the world between the lines” and with the theme of the 23rd edition of Letterature, homage was paid to Elsa Morante, writer, poet and undisputed protagonist of 20th century Italian literature, fifty years after the publication of her novel “La Storia”. A work, it was emphasised, of great literary relevance yesterday and today, in Italy and the former Yugoslavia.

The special guest was Donatella Di Pietrantonio, Strega Prize 2024, who not only read an unpublished work of her own during the event, but also gave a television interview on the local broadcaster N1.

Also present at the event were the Administrator of Zètema Progetto Cultura, Simone Silvi, and the Curator of Letterature Festival Internazionale di Roma, Simona Cives. A company 100% owned by Roma Capitale, Zètema is the capital’s instrumental company operating in the Culture sector. Letterature Festival Internazionale di Roma is the historic event of the Roman Summer, promoted by the Department of Culture and curated by the Cultural Activities Department of Roma Capitale with the organisational coordination of Zètema Progetto Cultura.

But SLIM24 did not stop only in Sarajevo. At the Student Cultural Centre of the University of Banja Luka, the two Italian films “Vetro” and “Palazzina Laf” were screened on 14 and 18 October, thanks to the careful subtitling work of the students from the Italian Language and Literature Studies programme at the University
