Italy national team head coach Luciano Spalletti has confirmed that exciting youngsters Niccolo Pisilli and Daniel Maldini are under consideration for a call-up to the senior Azzurri squad after a series of promising performances in Serie A over the last few weeks.

The CT has been back in Naples over the last two days to donate his custom Fiat Panda to a local children’s hospital. The car was gifted to Spalletti by Napoli supporters after the Partenopei won their first Scudetto in over 30 years in the 2022-23 season.

Spalletti spoke about several topics to the press while stood outside the Santobono hospital for children on Monday afternoon, including his potential selections for the Italy squad ahead of October’s Nations League fixtures.

When asked about the recent performances of Roma youngster Pisilli and Maldini, who moved from Milan to Monza on a permanent basis in the summer, Spalletti confirmed that both have been included on the preliminary squad list for the upcoming Italy matches.

“There are some really strong young players who are growing and showing that they could play an important role for Italy in the future,” the CT told the press.

“Those two names (Pisilli and Maldini) are on the pre-call-up list. We have already handed them in and of course, we are pleased that there are new names that can come in and give us a hand.”
