Serie A and Inter star Lautaro Martinez has stated that he deserves to be nominated for the Ballon D’or, having made the shortlist for the accolade a couple of days ago.
Martinez had impressed last season, becoming the Serie A’s top scorer and also impressing in all competitions. He also won the Copa America with Argentina over the summer.
Following Argentina’s recent clash against Chile, Martinez spoke to TNT Sports (via TMW) about his nomination for the Ballon D’or and he stated:
“For the season I’ve had, I think I deserve to be where I am. Because I’ve worked hard and I’ve also suffered a lot in the previous years. It’s the second time that I’m in the final phase of the Ballon d’Or and I think I have what it takes to be there.”
Martinez had started the game against Chile before being replaced by Alejandro Garnacho. While he didn’t score, he found the back of the net five times in the Copa America.
He had found the back of the net 24 times in the Serie A last season, also scoring twice in the Champions League. A case can definitely be made of the fact that he certainly deserved the nomination.
