Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini is reportedly in pole-position to take the vacant role at the touch-line for Napoli ahead of next season.
Sky Sports reports, via CalcioNapoli1926, reports that former Juventus and Inter coach Antonio Conte and Gasperini are at the top of the list of potential targets to take over at the helm, as the idea of hiring Vincenzo Italiano or Stefano Pioli is increasingly becoming unlikely. However, it seems that the 66 year-old is ahead of Conte and could depart Atalanta following the Europa League final against Bayern Leverkusen.
After an infuriating title defence in which Napoli find themselves in 10th placed with 52 points, failing to obtain a single piece of silverware and are set to miss out on European football in the upcoming campaign, the Azzurri seek to react quickly to find a proper replacement of interim coach Francesco Calzona, whom is currently the third Napoli coach this season following the sackings of both Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri.
