The reason for Camila Giorgi’s sudden retirement from tennis has likely become much clearer.

Giorgi, who confirmed her mysterious retirement Sunday on her Instagram page, is believed to have fled her native Italy for the United States and is wanted by Italian law enforcement for gaps in her tax returns, according to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Members of Giorgi’s family are also being investigated, according to the report, and she traveled to the United States with her father Sergio, mother Claudio and brothers Leandro and Amadeus.

Her father was Giorgi’s coach throughout her career.

After rumors swirled for days that Giorgi, 32, had retired, without her making any sort of announcement, she confirmed the news Sunday, though without a reason.

“Please trust this Instagram for truthful information,” Giorgi posted on her Instagram story. “To my lovely fans, I am happy to formally announce retirement from my tennis career. I am so grateful for your wonderful love and support for so many years.

“I cherish all the beautiful memories. There have been many inaccurate rumours about my future plans, so I look forward to providing more information about exciting opportunities ahead. It is a joy to share my life with you, and let’s continue this journey together. With much love, Camila.”

Giorgi has cut off contact with the Women’s Tennis Association and the Italian Tennis Federation among other organizations.

She is now focused on pursuing a career as a model, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

Giorgi, who has nearly 750,000 followers on Instagram, has posted photos in lingerie and swimsuits on her account recently and has modeled in the past.
