With Real Madrid having made it to the Champions League, Fiorentina making it to the Conference League final and Atalanta making it to the Europa League final, Italian managers are set to have a pedestal in all three European finals this season.
Last season, one Italian side had reached all three finals but Italy’s achievement this season is slightly different, with only two Italian teams in the European finals. Carlo Ancelotti, Vincenzo Italiano and Gian Piero Gasperini are all in the finals, meaning that Italy is the only nation to have a manager from their home country to be in all three finals.
Fiorentina came through a tough challenge against Club Brugge to scrape through, while Gasperini’s La Dea dominated Marseille earlier today in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final to set up a huge final against Bayer Leverkusen. Real Madrid, obviously completed a brilliant comeback to go past Bayern Munich yesterday.
It could so easily have been a Europa League final involving Roma and Atalanta, but the Giallorossi fell prey to a late Leverkusen comeback, as the German champions remained unbeaten in all competitions.
