Former Real Madrid and Spain manager Julen Lopetegui is currently the clear frontrunner to be the next manager of Serie A giants Milan.
Milan are already on the lookout for a new manager with Stefano Pioli set to depart at the end of the season. Luca Bianchin has reported that the Rossoneri see Lopetegui as their next manager and he is someone who has impressed them the most in their attempts so far.
Milan are looking for an international coach, who is good at working with young players and who does not impose his point of view but shares the transfer choices made by the club. The feedback of the club’s higher-ups are being taken into account and Milan are seeking help from Zelus, a data analysis company.
Contacts with Lopetegui’s agents date back to many months ago and Gerry Cardinale has liked what he has heard from the Spaniard during his interview with the manager and it took place some weeks ago. As a result, Milan have identified Lopetegui as a key target, with the ex-Sevilla boss also having given his priority to the Rossoneri over other clubs. West Ham did make an important offer for him but Lopetegui prefers Milan over other clubs.
Milan’s choice is also clear – they want Lopetegui and they could make a move soon.
