Michelle Mone could be set for a £85,000 Christmas bonus this year as a racehorse she owns is the favourite in the betting to win one of the biggest festive races this year.
The horse, Monbeg Genius, is owned by Barrowman Racing and was reportedly bought for Mone as a wedding gift by her billionaire husband Doug Barrowman.
Monbeg Genius is the 6/1 favourite in the betting to win the Welsh Grand National, according to odds via OLBG.
This gives the horse a 14% chance of winning Wales’ premier horse race and the £85,425 pay day that will come with it.
The horse, trained by Jonjo O’Neill, has already scooped up £81,143 in prize money with five wins in 11 races.
Monbeg Genius picked up £13,262 at the Cheltenham Festival this year when finishing third to the eventual winner of the Grand National, Corach Rambler, in the Ultima Handicap Chase.
Victory or a good performance at Chepstow in the Welsh Grand National on Wednesday 27th December may see Monbeg Genius take part in the Grand National in April.
Monbeg Genius is the joint-favourite to win the Grand National at odds of 14/1, along with 2023 winner Corach Rambler and Irish fancy Gaillard Du Mesnil.
Victory in the Grand National at Aintree, also known as ‘The People’s Race’, will see Michelle Mone pocket £500,000.
Mone admitted she stands to benefit from £60m in PPE profit sold to the UK government during the pandemic by a company led by her husband, Doug Barrowman.
An OLBG spokesperson said: “Monbeg Genius, owned by Barrowman Racing – after her husband, Doug – is the 6/1 favourite to win the Welsh Grand National on the 27th and take home the £85,000 prize on offer, which could set up a shot at the £500,000 Grand National in April if the horse finds the fast lane.”
