With Nicolò Barella undergoing tests, Italy experimented a 3-5-2 formation with Nicolò Fagioli in midfield ahead of Sunday’s friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Azzurri took a break for a few days and came back together at the Coverciano training ground to resume training today.
After the 0-0 draw with Turkey, their final test will be against Bosnia on Sunday, building up to the EURO 2024 tournament in Germany.
Inter midfielder Barella and Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret are still undergoing treatment for muscular issues and are having tests.
Riccardo Calafiori of Bologna lined up with Inter’s Matteo Darmian and Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno.
Fagioli has made only two appearances this season, as he sat out a seven-month ban for illegal gambling, but started in the middle.
Michael Folorunsho and Stephan El Shaarawy are expected to get the nod.
Gianluca Scamacca is available after the late end to Atalanta’s season and should partner Giacomo Raspadori.
(3-5-2): Donnarumma; Darmian, Buongiorno, Calafiori; Cambiaso, Frattesi, Fagioli, Folorunsho, El Shaarawy; Raspadori, Scamacca
