Tesla is in talks with the Italian
government to make electric lorries and vans in Italy, business
daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported Tuesday.
It said “the contacts have been going on for months, on and
off.”
The business and made in Italy industry has been in touch with a
possible new carmaker in Italy “and the mos serious contacts
have been with Elon Musk’s Tesla,” said the Milan based paper.
The talks have reportedly been proceeding since last summer “in
parallel” with negotiations with three Chinese producers, also
for electric vehicles: Byd, Great Wall Motors and Chery
Automobile.
The government has said it is talking to several carmakers with
the aim of bringing them to Italy, saying no other major western
country has only one maker – in Italy’s case, Stellantis.
