Four US players are in singles action at the Italian Open today, headlined by Madison Keys’ quarter-final clash with the No. 1 seed in the women’s tournament.

Who are Keys and Gauff playing today?

Keys, who was runner-up in Rome in 2016, faces two-time champion Iga Swiatek, after a straight-sets win over Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in the fourth round. Swiatek, who has been the WTA world No. 1 since November 2023, reached the last eight by beating Germany’s Angelique Kerber in two sets.

Meanwhile, America’s Coco Gauff takes on the No. 7 seed Zheng Qinwen today. Gauff, who is the third seed in the Italian capital, eliminated Paula Badosa in the fourth round, coming from a set down to eliminate the Spaniard and progress to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2021. Zheng faces the Georgian after defeating four-time grand slam champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets.

Paul and Fritz also in action for US

In the men’s singles, the US’s Tommy Paul is in the fourth round for the first time in his career after seeing off Germany’s Daniel Koepfer in two sets, and now meets No. 2 seed Daniil Medvedev. The defending champion, Medvedev overcame Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic in three sets to reach the last 16.

After victory over fellow American Sebastian Korda, Taylor Fritz is also making his maiden appearance in the Italian Open’s fourth round. The No. 11 seed at Foro Italico, Fritz meets eighth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov.

There is also US interest in the women’s doubles today, as Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk take on Mexico’s Giuliana Olmos and the Russian Alexandra Panova in the quarter-finals.

Who else is playing at the Italian Open today?

Among the stand-out games not involving American players, Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo is in action for the first time since his shock win over Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles third round. Tabiolo takes on Russian Karen Khachanov, who advanced to the last 16 with a straight-sets victory over Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo. The men’s singles also sees No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev – who won the tournament in 2017 – come up against Portugal’s Nuno Borges.
